Our PCC members have been busy racing their bikes over the last week or so, here's what they've been up to...
A big shout-out to Ben Warren who came 7th at the Grundig 180 on the 2nd of June, the Grundig is a three-hour gravel race held at Newnham Park, Plymouth. The course spans 5.5 miles, featuring an abundance of hard-packed fire roads and singletrack. It sounds like it was some fast racing and a great result for Ben in a strong field.
Angus and Soren our youth racers were at Castle Combe again with Soren continuing his streak on the podium with a 2nd this time. Soren got away in a 3 up break with two Avid Sport riders so was up against it, they pulled out half a lap lead on the other riders, last lap coming through the chicane one of the Avid riders chipped away to get a small gap holding on for the win. The 3 up break averaged 24.5 mph which is absolutely rapid on youth A gearing. Angus looks to have finished top ten (still awaiting official results) out of the 60/70 strong group in his race which just shows how much confidence he is gaining in these large fields and that his strength is really starting to show in his results.
Our very own club member Claire Ablett (racing in her race team PDQ PE's kit) was racing this last week too gaining a 2nd in the women's race at Castle Combe finishing just behind Para world champion Lauren Booth showing just how good her form is rubbing shoulders with such world class talent. She then followed this up with a 5th at Ilton on Saturday racing as part of the armed forces inter service championships representing the civilians after her race was merged due to a lack of entries, an amazing result working without any teammates in a field stacked full of strong and highly motivated Army, Navy and RAF teams.
